Olav has been involved in CLT / MassTimber projects since the mid 1990’s throughout Germany, France, Norway, as well as Canada and the United States. Projects have ranged in sizes from single, residential dwellings to large, very complex, commercial structures. After moving back to Canada in 2004, Olav was instrumentally involved in North America’s first CLT projects, including the Pallas Residence in Revelstoke, the Dowling Residence in Vancouver and the AGF INC. Head Office in Montreal.
Prior to Sidewalk, Olav joined Katerra in March of 2019 as part of the Mass Timber Component Design Team. Tasks included in-house production set-up, training team members and manufacturing of RIB-Panels (Spokane South-Landing Catalyst Building), as well as teamwork on development and manufacturing of a novel façade enclosure system for Katerra’s own, in-house use.
Olav began his Timber Framing career in 1979 as an apprentice in his grandfather’s woodworking shop in Norway. After moving back to Germany, he received his Red Seal certification in 1983, Wood Technician diploma in 1985, and Master Timber Framer diploma in 1994. He was born in Montreal, Canada but grew up in Germany and Norway. He currently resides in Lake Country, BC.
